JBL Bar 500 Review

In our review of the JBL Bar 500, we explore the performance of this low/middle-tier soundbar to see how it stacks up against the competition. JBL has taken a consistent approach with their 2023 soundbar series, with a similar feature set across all models, including their flagship models such as the Bar 1300X and Bar 1000. The Bar 500 is a 5.1 channel soundbar-subwoofer combo with 590 watts of power output, and it supports Dolby Atmos and MultiBeam surround sound. It comes with features such as WiFi, Bluetooth, Chromecast, Airplay, voice control capabilities, and audio calibration system. It is also compatible with the JBL One app. Visually, the Bar 500 resembles the Bar 300, but with increased power output and a slightly different channels and drivers configuration. The sound quality of the Bar 500 is good, but not exceptional. While it offers immersive surround sound, it lacks the crispness and clarity of higher-end soundbars. Overall, the JBL Bar 500 is a solid choice for those looking for a decent soundbar at a relatively affordable price. It may not be the best option for audiophiles or those looking for top-of-the-line sound quality, but it offers good value for its price point.

LG S95QR Review

Last year we didn't get the chance to test LG's flagship soundbar, so it's been two years since our last taste of LG's best offering, the SN11RG, in the soundbar market. But this will change today because in our LG S95QR review, we have the new 2022 flagship, and we are here to see what, if any, improvements LG has managed to make this time. Being a flagship soundbar means incorporating all the latest and most remarkable technologies, but these yearly release updates have been minor. But the S95QR piqued our interest due to the inclusion of a center Atmos channel, which is something new even in flagship units, along with IMAX Enhanced and a whole set of extras making this soundbar a force to be reckoned with. But before we start our tests, let's see real quick what this new monster of a soundbar brings to the table. The S95QR is, in essence, a 9.1.5 channels unit that features wireless surround speakers and a subwoofer with 810 watts of power. It supports Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, and IMAX Enhanced and comes with a massive set of extras, including Chromecast, Airplay 2, Tidal, Spotify Connect, High-Resolution Audio, USB and Bluetooth playback, voice control, and mobile app support.

Samsung HW-Q800B Review

Another year has come, and Samsung continues to be at the forefront of the soundbar market with another extensive yearly released lineup. Most of the attention is again on their top-of-the-line Q series, which includes no less than five new models. In our Samsung HW-Q800B review, we will test the soundbar in the middle of the lineup and what improvements we get compared to last year’s model. The HW-Q800B is placed above the Q600B and Q700B and below the Q930B and Samsung’s top flagship for 2022, the HW-Q990B. The new release is supposed to replace the Q800A, which you can read about in our review here, and right from the start, we see some fundamental differences compared to the 2021 model. So what becomes obvious is that the new HW-Q800B is not simply a repackaged 2021 unit but a brand-new offering. Going fast over the specs, the new HW-Q800B is a 5.1.2 channels soundbar/subwoofer combo that supports Dolby Atmos and DTS: X and can be expanded to a 7.1.4 channels system with the inclusion of the optional surround speakers kit. It comes with plenty of extras, including Bluetooth playback, Chromecast, Airplay2, and Spotify Connect, it has Samsung’s Q-Symphony as all Q series soundbars, supports voice control, and you will find SmartThings integration.

LG S90QY Review

Concerning soundbars, LG has been one of the most prominent players in the field. They have been refreshing their lineup every year and providing a lot of variations to satisfy all needs, budgets, and configurations. And in our LG S90QY review, we will be testing their second-in-line soundbar, just behind their 2022 flagship, the S95QR. The S90QY is a prime example of how LG tries to create similar products but differentiates them enough to meet your needs. And this is because the S90QY is the same unit as the S95QR with the same subwoofer but comes without any rear surround speakers. This can be ideal for you if you would like to have the performance of their flagship unit but don’t have the space to add its rear speakers. This way, you can save money on a premium product without compromising, considering your requirements. So let’s go quickly over the specs and what the S90QY offers. This is a 5.1.3 channel soundbar subwoofer combo with a wireless subwoofer that can output 570 watts of power. It supports Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, and IMAX Enhanced and comes with a huge set of extras, including Chromecast, Airplay 2, Tidal, Spotify Connect, High-Resolution Audio, USB and Bluetooth playback, voice control, and mobile app support. Lastly, it supports the optional SPQ8-S rear speakers kit if you decide to add them to improve the unit's surround performance.

LG S80QY Review

With LG having to release no less than five new soundbars in 2022, they surely know how to offer something for all budgets and all tastes, as they have been doing for the last few years. In our LG S80QY review today, we will look towards the middle of their lineup and determine if LG’s new release has anything different to offer than the model it is supposed to replace, the 2021 SP8YA. Now, we didn’t have the chance to test its predecessor, so we cannot compare the two units directly. However, LG usually releases these new models with minimal differences, as one year is insufficient to make substantial improvements. And from the looks of it, the S80QY falls right into that category, with one notable difference we will discuss further in our review. But before we start, as we always do, let’s see a glimpse of what the new 2022 release comes with. The LG S80QY is 3.1.3 channels, a soundbar-subwoofer combo that supports Dolby Atmos and DTS: X and IMAX Enhanced. It is once again the result of the collaboration with Meridian and comes with plenty of features like high-resolution audio, many online streaming and multi-room options, voice control, an auto-calibration system, USB and Bluetooth playback, and can be expanded with optional surround speakers kit.

JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam Review (5.0 CH Dolby Atmos Soundbar)

JBL may not be one of the first brands you can think of when it comes to soundbars, as their lineup is less extensive than some competing brands, nor update them yearly as Samsung and LG do. But they still have some noteworthy models, and so today, in our JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam review, we will be checking the last model of their refreshed lineup that we haven't limited so far. JBL's lineup consists of five models right now. The JBL Bar 9.1, their current flagship, the JBL bar 5.1 Surround, the JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam that we will test here today, the JBL Bar 2.1 Deep Bass, and the JBL Bar 2.0 All-in-One. From the above, you understand that the JBL Bar 5.0 MultiBeam is somewhat of a middle-tier model. However, this classification is very vague compared to what middle-tier means for other brands. But let's see what JBL's offer has in store for us. Here, we have a 5.0 channels single soundbar with 250 watts of power output. It supports Dolby Atmos and MultiBeam surround sound and has certain extras, including WiFi and Bluetooth functionality, USB playback, multi-room capabilities, voice control, Chromecast, and Airplay 2.
